Monica is a passionate data analyst with a research Master's in Statistics from the University of Auckland. She has a passion for utilising data to improve equity in public health outcomes.
Monica’s expertise utilises a range of methods and subject areas. A research and further consulting position in gambling addiction research, focused on applied behaviour change strategies, has given Monica a strong base in qualitative review, text analysis, thematic coding, and stakeholder engagement. In a separate research project Monica explored the trends and characteristics of major trauma hospitalisations in adults in New Zealand, with her work published in the New Zealand Medical Journal. Monica has further expertise in health economics, gained from an internship and further study.
Monica is a skilled R programmer with a strong statistical background and specialty in Bayesian statistics, developed across her thesis where she developed a new technique for spline regression analysis using MCMCs to enable data driven modelling. Monica’s strength is in simplifying complex, technical concepts into a clear story tailored to her audience’s needs.
Currently, Monica is a consultant within Synergia’s data and analytics team, working collaboratively with a team of data scientists, researchers and consultants. She leverages her knowledge of health systems and data to provide in-depth analyses.
